QT Float

QT Float Modules/plugins are available for After Darks (and DarkSide), Nova and Setting Sun screen savers for the MacOS and Windows 95, 98 and NT.

QT Float
This module shows a series of images and QuickTime movies from a folder, on the screen.

QT Float.ad
This module is the same as the above module, except it place a company logo in the top left of the screen. Contact us to licence this module with your company logo in it (also available for Windows 95, 98 and NT (QT Float.SCR)). Licensed version can also include your custom word list and phrase list, and custom imbedded images.

QT Float System Development Kit (SDK)

Contact us to licence the QT Float System Development Kit (SDK) for building your own custom screen savers in house or provide us with the picture and text and we will build you your custom screen saver(s) (also available for Windows 95, 98 and NT (QT Float.SCR)).

Supported Image and Movie Formats:

The following still image formats are supported by the QT Float screen saver:
QuickTime v2.5 supports: JPEG, GIF, PhotoShop 2.5/3.0/4.0, SGI .rgb, MacPaint, QuickTime, PICT and QuickTime v3.0 also adds support for: Progressive JPEG, PNG, TIFF, TARGA, QuickDraw GX (if installed), Windows BMP QuickTime v4.0 also support more formats including, MP3 audio files, and streaming of video.
Only QuickTime Movie formats is supported. MPEG1 is support on PPC only and Windows, Windows AVI movies are support via QuickTime v5.0 or later.

Note: By default the selected file is an image on the Images of the World CD-ROM. If the CD-ROM is not in, select cancel and change the setting to your favourate set of movie(s) or picture(s).

The QT Float Screen Saver has been tested for Year 2000.


System Requirements

  NOVA Screen Saver   - QT Float(tm) Screen Saver Saverlet for MacOS

Minimum System Requirements:

  • System 7.1 or later
  • QuickTime 3.0 or later (available online <http://www.apple.com/quicktime>.
  • Nova screen saver V3.02 (68K) or 3.1 (PPC) later (included on CD-ROM)
  • Color Monitor with 256 colors or better
  • 1MB of free memory (depends on Monitor color depth and picture size).

  Setting Sun Screen Saver   - QT Float(tm) Screen Saver module for MacOS

Minimum System Requirements:

  • System 7.5.3 or later and PowerPC
  • QuickTime 3.0 or later (available online <http://www.apple.com/quicktime>.
  • Setting Sun Screen Saver (shareware, included on CD-ROM)
  • Color Monitor with 256 colors or better
  • 1MB of free memory (depends on Monitor color depth and picture size).

AfterDark / DarkSide - QT Float(tm) Screen Saver Module for MacOS

Minimum System Requirements:

  • System 7.1 or later
  • QuickTime 3.0 or later (available online <http://www.apple.com/quicktime>.
  • After Dark 2.0u or later OR DarkSide screen saver V4.2 or later
  • Color Monitor with 256 colors or better
  • 1MB of free memory (depends on Monitor color depth and picture size).

Installation instructions for Nova Screen Saver on MacOS:

NOVA Screen Saver users:

  1. Install Nova Screen Saver (if it is not installed), then copy (QT Float Fat) from the CD-ROM to the "NOVA Saverlets" folder in your "Nova" folder.
  2. Open the "NOVA Settings; choose "Nova Settings" from the File Menu, and select the General Tab. Then select QT Float from the pop-up menu of Saverlets.
  3. Setting QT Float Screen Saver options:
    On screen saver startup (hold Mouse in Fade Now corner), hold the Apple Key down to indicate you would like to change the Settings (see Nova Documentation for details).

Installation instructions for Setting Sun Screen Saver on MacOS:

Setting Sun Screen Saver users:

  1. Install Setting Sun Screen Saver (if it is not installed), then copy the Setting Sun version of QT Float from the CD-ROM to the "Faders" folder in your "Setting sun" folder.
  2. Open the "Setting Sun Settings; choose "Preferences" from the Edit Menu, and select the General Tab. Then select QT Float from the pop-up menu of plugins.
  3. (Optional) Adjust the QT Float options such as "Change Rate" as desired.

Installation instructions for After Dark users on MacOS:

  1. Copy the screen saver module (QT Float) from the CD-ROM to the "After Dark Files" folder in your "Control Panels" folder (in your "System Folder").
  2. Open the "After Dark" Control Panel; choose "After Dark Files" from the pulldown menu on the left.
  3. (Optional) Adjust "Drift Speed" and "Change Rate" and options as desired, then click "Demo" (then click "Done").

  4. Close "After Dark" Control Panel.

Installation instructions for DarkSide (of Macintosh) users:

If you do not own After Dark, you can install & use the provided freeware screen saver application, DarkSide (by Tom Dowdy). "DarkSide of the Mac 4.2 alias" file points to the full original distribution of Darkside.

To install QT Float modules with the original distribution, just put these modules in you DarkSide folder and select one of them as you default module.

  1. Copy the folder containing the DarkSide program. Then copy the screen saver modules, QT Float, from the CD-ROM to that folder on your hard drive.
  2. Open the above folder (now on your hard drive) and drag & drop one of the module onto the icon for the DarkSide application to install (follow directions).
  3. After installation-- if the settings box isn't already opened, drag down to "DarkSide Settings" under the "File" menu; ensure that the screen saver module, QT Float Screen Saver, is selected in the left column.
  4. (Optional) Adjust "Drift Speed" and "Change Rate" as desired, as well as any other options; click "Test Fader" (then click "Done Testing").

  5. Under the "File" menu, drag down to "Close". *

Please Note: if you already have another screen saver installed, you may need to disable it in order for DarkSide to work properly.

*Important: do not "Quit" DarkSide; DarkSide must remain running in the background in order to work (only requires 80K of memory).

Note: if you run DarkSide from the CD-ROM you can't change any of the settings for the modules. Copy the modules to your hard drive before you change the settings.
